GT6YB

Isle of Man DXpedition for IOTA 1998

We had such a great time in 97 that we did it again in 98 - This time as GT6YB !

Oh, what a lovely bunch of IOTA nuts !

These were the participants in this years' DX-pedition. From left to right:

  • G3XSV, Alan (the lone CW op)
  • G0CFM, Barry (the master-chef)
  • G7VIN, Wilf (the entertainer)
  • G7ORR, Matt (the sleeper)
  • M0AXF, Neil (the fearless climber)
  • M1AHH, Steve (the master puller :-)
Location in Port Erin

Thanks again to the Commissioners of Port Erin for letting us use the site.

This year we tried some new antennas right on the cliff edge as you can see in this photo.

Our final score and details of the equipment:

We were only a few points off last year despite the fact that most of the team were more experienced in VHF than HF contesting, and we only had one CW operator. So this was an excellent result for us, and great fun on and off the contest site.

Next year we may try our luck on a different island, so look out for G?6YB
