NEWS from 1999

CHEERS ! The G6YB team were out in force at the RSGB's HF and IOTA Convention at Beaumont on October 10th. to pick up trophies for the SSB Field Day 1998 and National Field Day 1999.

Bristol Trophy comes home after 45 years

By an amazing stroke of fate the G6YB team have taken the Bristol Trophy in National Field Day this year. The trophy was originally presented by the Bristol Group to the RSGB in the 1950s after it won NFD three times.

RSGB President Hilary Claytonsmith, G4JKS presents the Bristol Trophy to (right to left) Vic G0WKW, Colin G3YHV, Robin G3TKF, and Alan G3XSV.

The Bristol Trophy only came our way because the winner of the Restricted Section was also overall winner - an unusual feat.

And on VHF ...

The group have also made a fantastic showing on VHF this year, winning two backpacker contests and the first Practical Wireless 2 metre QRP trophy. The trophy was presented at the Leicester Show on Sept 25th. Well done Matt G7ORR, Neil and Steve (pictured above).

G6YB take Northumbria Trophy for SSB Field Day

We caused quite a stir with this win. Lichfield Group G3WAS had come to regard it as their own - they had won for the last 6 years. However we won it in convincing style by making the highest score ever achieved.

Back to defend our Title

The team were back in action in SSB Field Day September 99 to try and retain our trophy. Not as many QSOs as last year, but many more country multipliers. We think we may keep the trophy, but we'll have to wait and see.

GX6YB lying 3rd in 1999 IOTA contest

The RSGB's claimed scores show us lying 3rd overall in the Multi-op Island section. This year we were in the milder climate of the Isle of Wight.

Spot the imposter Competition.
